Maria Teresa Capdevielle is a culinary instructor, cookbook author, and pastry chef from Abruzzo, Italy.
Maria says: "I always wanted to be a chef." Born to Italian immigrant parents in Venezuela, she was surrounded by the culinary world of her central Italian heritage and started cooking as a child, helping with her mother’s catering business and accompanying her father on trips to countryside farms in search of the best quality products. After a career as a computer engineer, she graduated from the California Culinary Academy with an internship at the famed Chez Panisse in Berkeley, where she learned about hand-selecting and gently preparing perfect produce. She has cooked, baked and consulted for venerable establishments throughout the Bay Area, including at V. Sattui, The Rose Pistola, The Waterfront, The Market Hall, and The Townhouse Grill & Restaurant.
Maria teaches classes in the SF Bay Area and nationally, and consults for small restaurants and wineries to help develop their dessert menu and train their teams.
She is the author of The Secrets of Baking with Olive Oil and My Sweet Abruzzo.
