In-Person Cooking Class

Breads of the World: Ukrainian Pyrizhky

Fri | Apr 07, 2023 | 6–10P PT

Teacher Anna Voloshyna

Join Anna Voloshyna to make Pyrizhky, one of Ukraine’s most beloved pastries (are they buns...or dumplings? Not exactly, but they combine the best of both worlds!). These fluffy little turnovers start with a yeasted dough and are then stuffed with savory and sweet fillings before being cooked to golden perfection. Once you have your first bite, it is incredibly hard to stop eating them. But fear not, we’ll make plenty for everyone.
Anna will teach you to make a simple yeasted dough (a great starter recipe for anyone feeling a little intimidated by yeast). You will practice forming three different pyrizhky shapes with three different fillings: Farmer’s Cheese and Herbs (large round flat bread), Chicken and Green Onion (small round), and sweet Apple (small oval) for dessert. We’ll make a vibrant, golden beet Vinegret Salad to serve alongside this bountiful meal.
You will join your classmates and Anna at the table at the end of class for a family-style pyrizhky feast. A selection of wines, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages will also be served.
